These include: Copper, brass ( Copper – zinc), bronze
( Copper – tin), zamac ( zinc – aluminium),
aluminium, chrome, nickel, gold, silver, etc.
All of these are polished with either Tripoli compounds
or aluminium oxide compounds, with cotton buffs.
Shine is very important in these metals as they must
have a perfect finish and sometimes they are coated.
Aluminium polishing requires special treatment as this
is a very soft metal with a very high friction coefficient.
For polishing, a Tripoli or alumina compound is required
with a high grease-content for lubrication purposes,
and the metal must be applied to the buff at a very
low pressure.
Chrome is a special case as its hardness means that
it must be polished with aluminium oxide compounds.
